It has been 24 years since we bid goodbye from the 90’s.
Well, that number corresponds my age so I guess, it’s a bit long coz now, I can
see myself as a bit old, if not too old. Though I wasn’t really born on the 90’s,
this era has always been the most unforgettable for me. It’s where my life
started and where my love for music blossomed.
Well, without further ado, let’s get to what this post is really all about: The Top 30 Songs From the 90’s That We Wish to Forget But We Couldn’t (Though We Don’t Know The Title Until We Hear It)
Well, without further ado, let’s get to what this post is really all about: The Top 30 Songs From the 90’s That We Wish to Forget But We Couldn’t (Though We Don’t Know The Title Until We Hear It)
1. It Must Have Been Love- Roxette
- Tagged as the song for the heartbroken, who could possibly forget the lines, “It must have been love but it’s over now.” Try to relive the memory of your past love lives and hear this song once again.
2. More Than Words- Extreme
- Who could resist this song's acoustic sound and the singer's adorable voice? It will surely make you say "Yes". Coz it's more than words, it's more than what you say..
3. The Sign- Ace of Base
- Go down the memory lane and jive with this song's catchy beat. I have made a cover of this song, but the original is practically the best. Remember the lines, "I saw the sign, it opened up my eyes and I am happy now."? It will take you back to where you were on the 90's.
4. Wannabe- Spice Girls
- Tongue twister: I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want. You tell me what you want, what you really, really want. The Spice Girls might be out of the music industry now but their songs will always be in the history.
5. Mmbop- Hanson
- The Jonas Brothers are no match to the Hanson Brothers way back the 90's. Who could forget this song that makes you LSS even upon hearing it? It's just so addictive. I don't know the words really but the song is AWESOME!
6. Barbie Girl- Aqua
- Every 90's girl dreamt of having their own "Ken". It's funny, I know but hearing this song will make you fantasize more. If you don't want to hear it, I'll still say it, "I'm a Barbie Girl in a Barbie World. Life in plastic, it's fantastic." lol :)
7. Wonderwall- Oasis
- Be prepared to find a lot of alternative music on this list. Why, it's my favorite! (Kill me). Haha. Well, this song is just as good as its lyrics. I missed the band, I hope to hear their songs again. My favorite line of the song is, "There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don't know how.". It makes us realize that sometimes, we have things to say but we simply couldn't.
8. You Are Not Alone- Michael Jackson
- It's MJ. He's a music legend and this song is my favorite among the myriad songs on the albums he released. It's just sad that he died too soon. Anyway, when I feel a little sadness, I just imagine MJ singing, "You are not alone. I am here with you." (Hopefully, it's not literally. Creeps) Haha.
9. Lovefool- The Cardigans
- Have you experienced being a Lovefool? This song will tell you how to be one. "Love me, love me. Say that you love me. Fool me, fool me. Go on and fool me" but hearing these lines will at least give you an idea what a "Lovefool" is.
10. Zombie- Cranberries
- Maybe, this song from the band Cranberries led by Dolores O'riordan started the Zombie themes and ideas that are now playing a huge market in the music, film and television industry. A friend once described this song as, "It's non-sense but it's really good.". I bet she's right coz though the lyrics are a bit creepy, the rhythm is actually catchy and you can easily sing along with it. "What's in your head? In your head? Zombie, zombie, zombie..ehhh" Who would forget this, right?
11. Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana
- Nirvana is probably the most sought-after Alternative Rock band of the 90's. With a number of hit singles, they definitely made it big by making loud, sinister songs that are otherwise, good to hear.
12. Semi-Charmed Life- Third Eye Blind
- Here's another song that will make you have an LSS. "I want something else to make me through this semi-charmed kind of life." This is the line of this song that I like most but if you'll ask me what is that "semi-charmed kind of life", well, until now, I still don't know. :-)
13. Losing My Religion- R.E.M
- This song opens with "Oh life, it's bigger , it's bigger than you but you are not me.." Maybe, the song tells us that life is big but we have to be bigger in order to survive and live happily. It's a very good song, though.
14. Push-Matchbox 20
- I soooo love Rob Thomas. His voice is the exact epitome of a hot band vocalist. Well, this song will make you love him too. :-) I don't wanna talk anymore, just hear the song and be mesmerized. :-)
15. Iris- Goo Goo Dolls
- Have you watched the movie, City of Angels? This song is the movie's OST. I already loved this song before I've seen that movie but upon watching it, I loved this song more because it perfectly fits the movie. As the line of this song goes, "I'd give up forever to touch you coz I know that you feel me somehow.." we were taught that sometimes, we have to give up something important to us in order to have something that we want, something that we dreamt of. It's a good movie actually, but it was made even better by this song.
16. Closing Time- Semisonic
- This song makes you wanna go back to being a high schooler who can just fool around everyday. Semisonic is one band that when you like them first, you won't stop liking them again.
17. All The Small Things- Blink 182
- All The Small Things is one of those songs that are enjoyable to hear. Though the music is a little loud, the rhythm is easy to remember and the lyrics goes really well with the song.
18. Linger- Cranberries
- That's another Cranberries song on the list. The big question that the song gives is, "Do you have to, do you have to let it linger?" Well, love is really a very strange feeling but once we love, do we really have to be loved back? Just listen to the song and know the answer. :-)
19. Friday I'm In Love- The Cure
- I don't know about you but for The Cure, the best day to be in love is Friday. Do you think so? Coz for me, everyday I'm in love. Hahaha. :-)
20. Otherside- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- "How long, how long will I slide?" This RHCP song is my favorite amongst their song because it reminds me of my cousin and her husband's (then, her boyfriend) "courtship days". I don't know if this is a good "courtship" song but let it be, at least they're happily married now.
21. No Rain- Blind Melon
- Blind Melon is known for their artistic music videos that are a delight to the eyes. No Rain is no exception but adding to the cool music video is the equally good music and lyrics of this song. Whenever I hear this, I automatically turn on to a chill mode.
22. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing- Aerosmith
- This classic song from Aerosmith is almost everyone's favorite especially those who have watched the film, Armageddon. So, here it is. Refresh your mind and savor the memory that this song entails.
23. What's Up- 4 Non-Blondes
- Along with Cranberries and The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes is also a band with a female vocalist. (Well, I'm always fond of bands with a female vocalist.) Anyway, this song is also good to hear especially when you are travelling coz it makes you think things over. Honestly, I couldn't find "What's Up" on the song but I guess that's it. That's the catch.
24. Stay (I Missed You)- Lisa Loeb
- I've been trying to make a cover of this song but it's really hard because the guitar parts of the song have one heck of difficult chords which I am having a difficulty to play. I just love a line from this song that goes like this, "You say, I only hear what you want to..". Oftentimes, we don't listen, we just want to hear what we wanted to hear and let the other things pass. So I guess, Lisa's right.
25. Macarena- Los Del Rio
- Get your dancing shoes and dance with this classic dance song of the 90's. (You still know the steps, don't fool yourself. LOL)
26. Everybody- Backstreet Boys
- The 90's has been the era of Boy Bands and among those who had the most number of fans is the Backstreet Boys. "Everybody" will make you realize how you missed watching cute guys sing and dance in a not-so-synchronized way but you still love them.
27. Tears In Heaven- Eric Clapton
- This sad ballad will make your heart melt especially when you hear the lines, "Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?" I couldn't explain more. (The keys are now wet.)
28. Don't Speak- No Doubt
- Did you miss Gwen Stefani already? I do. So, let's hear it from them once again.
29. One- U2
- This song is definitely one of U2's most loved song. Tackling about the society in general, we couldn't help but feel the message of this song.
30. Last Kiss- Pearl Jam
- Pearl Jam gave us a very tragic event on this song. At first, I was amazed with the song's cool rhythm but I didn't know that behind that coolness is a sad story of two lovers.
Well, the list is now complete. I hope you had a good tour down the memory lane.
All the best.
